1. Who We Are

Canarias Paradise (canariasparadise.com) is an independent travel guide dedicated to the Canary Islands. We are the data controller for the personal data collected through this website. If you have any questions about how we handle your data, please contact us at hello@canariasparadise.com.

2. Data We Collect

Data you provide directly

We may collect your name and email address if you contact us or subscribe to our newsletter. You are never required to provide personal data simply to browse this website.

Data collected automatically

When you visit this website, certain technical data is collected automatically, including:

  • Your IP address (anonymised where possible)
  • Browser type and version
  • Pages visited and time spent on each page
  • Referring website (how you arrived here)
  • Device type and operating system

This data is collected via Google Analytics and is used exclusively in aggregate, anonymised form to understand how visitors use our site and improve our content.

Affiliate tracking data

This website participates in the Travelpayouts affiliate network. When you click an affiliate link, Travelpayouts and its partner brands (such as Booking.com, Skyscanner, Kiwi.com, GetYourGuide, etc.) may set cookies on your device to track whether a purchase is completed. We do not receive or store any personal data from these transactions — only an anonymous commission signal. Please review Travelpayouts' privacy policy at travelpayouts.com/en/privacy for full details.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect for the following purposes:

  • Analytics: to understand which content is most useful and improve the site experience.
  • Communications: to respond to your enquiries or send newsletters (only if you have opted in).
  • Affiliate tracking: to enable commission tracking when you click through to partner booking services.
  • Legal compliance: to meet our obligations under applicable law.
  • Lead sharing (with explicit consent only): if you tick the optional consent box in our contact form, we may share your contact details and travel preferences with carefully selected tourism operators in the Canary Islands so they can send you personalised offers. We will never share your data for this purpose without your explicit opt-in.

We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling, and we do not sell your personal data to any third party.

4. Sharing of Data

We share data only with the following categories of third party, and only to the extent necessary:

  • Google Analytics — anonymised usage statistics (EU data processing addendum in place).
  • Travelpayouts and partner brands — affiliate tracking cookies only (see above).
  • Email service providers — if you subscribe to our newsletter, your email is stored with our email platform, which processes data under its own GDPR-compliant terms.
  • Selected tourism operators — only if you have explicitly ticked the optional consent box in our contact form. In that case, we may share your name, email, travel dates, island preferences, budget range and interests with tourism operators in the Canary Islands (hotels, activity providers, local agencies) for the purpose of sending you relevant personalised offers. Each operator receiving your data is contractually required to process it in accordance with applicable data protection law and use it solely for the stated purpose.

Aggregated and anonymised data: we may also compile and sell anonymised, aggregated market intelligence reports (e.g. "60% of enquiries from Germany are interested in Lanzarote") to tourism businesses, public bodies, and consultancies. These reports contain no personally identifiable information whatsoever and do not constitute a transfer of personal data.

We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other third party not listed above without your explicit consent.

4b. Aggregated Market Intelligence

In addition to the above, we may compile anonymised, aggregated reports based on patterns observed across all website interactions and form submissions. These reports may include statistics such as:

  • Which Canary Islands generate the most visitor interest by country of origin
  • Seasonal travel demand patterns
  • Most popular experience categories by traveller profile
  • Budget distribution across different markets

These reports are compiled exclusively from anonymised and aggregated data. No individual can be identified from any report we produce or share. This activity does not constitute processing of personal data under the GDPR and requires no additional consent.

Such reports may be sold or licensed to tourism businesses, local authorities, hospitality groups, consultancies, and other organisations with a legitimate interest in Canary Islands travel market intelligence.

5. Cookies

We use cookies to enable website analytics and affiliate tracking. You can manage your cookie preferences at any time via the cookie banner displayed on your first visit, or by reviewing our full Cookie Policy.

6. Data Retention

Analytics data is retained for 26 months, after which it is automatically deleted from Google Analytics. Email subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe. Any other personal data is deleted within 30 days of the purpose for which it was collected being fulfilled.

7. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: you may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification: you may ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure: you may ask us to delete your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restriction: you may ask us to restrict how we process your data.
  • Portability: you may request your data in a portable format.
  • Objection: you may object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent: where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.

Withdraw lead-sharing consent: if you have opted in to lead sharing, you may withdraw your consent at any time by emailing us. Upon withdrawal we will no longer share your data with new operators, though we cannot recall data already lawfully shared prior to your withdrawal.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@canariasparadise.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Spanish data protection authority (AEPD) at aepd.es.

8. Contact

For any privacy-related questions, write to us at hello@canariasparadise.com. We aim to respond within 5 working days.
